2.0 OBJECTIVE 1

2.1 PUBLIC AWARENESS

Action

  • Ensure that the public is aware of Council activities and health and social services issues through: - Features in local press. - Contributions to Eastern Health and Social Services Board, Trusts and voluntary and community group newsletters. Prominent advertisements in phone book and yellow pages
  • Produce and distribute leaflets to advise people of their rights and help them make more effective use of services.
  • Updating and maintaining web site
  • Provide posters and leaflets in locally based facilities.
  • Produce and distribute an Annual Report.
  • Advertisement in District Council publications distributed to households.
  • Presentations to community groups, health and social services staff and other interested groups about the role of Council.
  • Collaborate in joint Health and Social Services Councils' initiatives.
  • Encourage public participation and user forums.
  • Provide an accessible resource and information service to the public by:
  • - The office being staffed 08.45 am - 5.00 pm Monday to Friday for phone-calls and callers.
    - Advertising clear information about how members of the public can contact the Council.
    - Making arrangements as necessary to enable people with special needs to contact the Council.

2.2 SERVICE USER INVOLVEMENT

Action

  • Promote Patient Participation Groups in GP Practices.
  • Assist in the establishment and on going work of Maternity Services Liaison Groups.
  • Facilitate Consumer Panels/Forums.
  • Facilitate Focus Groups on various topics.
  • Encourage user participation at all levels in research projects.
  • Act as a resource (within limited resources) to community/service user representatives on Local Health and Social Care Groups.
  • Help to build capacity of public/service users in representatives roles.
